Nigerian movie producer and actress Adanma Luke has apologized to Nigerians for the tragic boat accident that led to the deaths of actor John Odonwodo, popularly known as Junior Pope, and four other crew members on their way to her film set in April 2024.
In a video posted on her Instagram on Monday, Luke, who produced the movie The Other Side of Life, shared how deeply sorry she is and how the incident has left her struggling with depression.
“I’m just here to say that I’m sorry. I’m sorry, Nigerians. I’m sorry I took away your loved ones, according to what people are saying. I’m very sad, and even though I try to be strong, I don’t see myself as strong. I’m devastated that this happened on my set, and I’m heartbroken that they came to work for me at that time. I’m not God; this was destined to happen, but why me?”
In her emotional message, she asked for forgiveness, emphasizing that the accident was not intentional. “We all loved JP, and we all loved the others who lost their lives—my crew members.
Luke clarified that the boat was just for transportation, not part of the movie shoot, saying, “We weren’t even shooting on the water; it was a means of transportation.” She added that she had asked for a better location to shoot the movie and was told by her team that it was safe.
“It’s not like I did this on purpose, and I’m taking all the blame. Please, Nigerians, I’m sorry. I’m gradually losing my life and sinking into depression. Please, forgive me,” she pleaded.
