BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) - It doesn't happen very often, so when a Boise State Bronco decides to leave the program early to enter the NFL Draft it makes big waves. Junior defensive end Demarcus Lawrence made those waves late last week when he announced his decision on his twitter account.But, Boise State's dominating defender wants to make sure Bronco Nation and his former coaches know it wasn't easy, and he truly treasured his time in the valley.
"It has been a pleasure, my last two years at Boise State. I'm grateful for everything they did for me, and I hope they still support me. I love Boise State, but it was just time for me to make this change in my life and move onto the next level," said Lawrence.
Demarcus told the CBS affiliate in Augusta, Georgia that he'll put in a lot of hard work preparing for the NFL Combine. He'll spend every day until late February getting bigger and faster in hopes of impressing the scouts the way he did all of the Mountain West competition over the past two seasons.
He is the first Bronco to leave early for the NFL since Jeremy Childs who left the team following the 2008 season. Childs signed with the San Diego Chargers as an undrafted free agent, and was cut before the 2009 season.
