The Phillips Fire has now burned 2,121 acres north of Fairfield and passed through the heart of Soldier Mountain Ski Area in the process.

The mountain provided an update on Facebook over the weekend. While crews were able to save the lodge and ski lifts, the bridge that gives access to the resort has been destroyed.

The fire was sparked by lightning on Aug. 5, and was just seven percent contained as of Monday.

It's burning in brush and Timber in the Free Gold Creek drainage. There are still structures threatened in the Phillips Creek and Free Gold Creek drainage, and along Soldier Creek Road from Free Gold to the Soldier Mountain Ski Resort. The road into the area is closed, as is Couch Summit.

A Type 3 Incident Management Team took over command of the fire Sunday. Crews are now focused on building containment lines on the north, south, and west sides of the fire, and on protecting structures on the east flank of the fire.

There are currently five helicopters assigned to the fire.

The public is also being asked to stay away from the area.
