A self-proclaimed tomboy, she competed in sports, developed a passion for track and field and even clinched victory in a mini-marathon at the tender age of 15, etching her name in history as the youngest victor. While athletics honed her competitive spirit, fashion ignited her creative side. While still in high school, she organised the school’s fashion show, hinting at her future entrepreneurial endeavours. Her beauty and confidence flourished, leading her to pageantry.
In 2003, she was crowned Miss Hawaiian Tropic Canada, followed by a runner-up position at the international finals the next year. These triumphs opened doors to lucrative modelling contracts, including appearances in Playboy magazine and calendars.
Mizanin’s life is just about beauty and glamour as she obtained a degree in Business Administration.
On February 10 2024, Mizanin revealed that she had recently received a diagnosis of Ovarian Serous Borderline Tumours, leading to pre-cancerous growth in her ovaries. At 41, she disclosed that she underwent surgery to remove 11 tumours from her body and will soon undergo a complete hysterectomy to address the issue with her uterus.
In an Instagram post, she shared her struggles with severe abdominal distention and swelling, resembling a pregnancy of six months. Despite seeking medical advice and enduring numerous tests, including treatment for gastrointestinal issues like SIBO and multiple rounds of antibiotics, she continued to experience extreme fatigue and a sense of disconnection from herself.
Despite the uncertainty, Mizanin persisted in seeking answers, and her perseverance paid off when her doctor, Thais Alliabadi, identified and removed 11 implants around her uterus, ovaries, and connective tissue. The diagnosis revealed a rare and aggressive form of pre-cancer in her ovaries, with a grim prognosis of less than a year’s survival if not addressed promptly.
Though the tumours have been removed, Mizanin’s journey towards recovery is far from over. She is scheduled to undergo a hysterectomy to remove her uterus.
Maryse Mizanin career
Throughout her career, Mizanin has gained a reputation for stirring up controversy with her haughty persona and domineering attitude in the ring. Additionally, her comic sketches, which frequently catch audiences off guard during matches and promos, have also been a notable aspect of her repertoire.
Upon joining WWE in 2006, Mizanin commenced her wrestling training. Initially portraying a stereotypical ditzy French model, she refined her character, infusing it with feistiness and leveraging her bilingualism. Her debut on SmackDown in 2008 coincided with a storyline involving Michelle McCool and The Undertaker, swiftly establishing her as a confident, albeit villainous, presence.
The year 2008 marked a turning point as Mizanin clinched her first Divas Championship in a dramatic showdown against Michelle McCool at Armageddon. Although her reign was brief, it showcased her ability to excel in the ring and captivate audiences with her flamboyant personality.
However, it was her second championship victory in 2010 that sealed her legacy. By defeating Gail Kim on Raw, she became the first woman to hold the Divas Championship twice, further asserting herself as a formidable contender. During this period, she engaged in memorable rivalries with Gail Kim, Natalya and The Bella Twins.
In 2011, Mizanin strategically transitioned to managing her then-partner, The Miz. This move capitalised on their real-life relationship and undeniable on-screen chemistry. As his “manager extraordinaire”, she served as his mouthpiece, infusing his character with cunning and sophistication. Together, they formed one of WWE’s most entertaining duos, participating in humorous skits, intense altercations and mixed tag team matches.
Following a five-year hiatus, Mizanin made a return to the ring in 2016 alongside her now-husband, The Miz. Her comeback reignited her in-ring prowess, leading to thrilling matches against the likes of Sasha Banks, Brie Bella and Becky Lynch.
On November 29, 2021, there was an unexpected appearance by Mizanin on Raw, where she joined The Miz in confronting Edge during his first promo after being drafted back to Raw. She continued to make several appearances on Raw in the subsequent weeks, including trying to intervene in the match between Edge and The Miz on Day 1, which led to Beth Phoenix returning to confront her.
Following this, on the next episode of Raw, Edge and Beth Phoenix challenged The Miz and Mizanin to a mixed-tag team match at the Royal Rumble, a challenge The Miz readily accepted.
On January 17, 2022, Mizanin tried to convince Beth Phoenix to cancel their Royal Rumble match. However, Phoenix refused and Mizanin resorted to attacking her with a brick concealed in her purse. The feud reached its climax with a mixed-tag team match at the Royal Rumble event, where Mizanin and The Miz were defeated.
