Teen Mom: The Next Chapter is back with all-new episodes beginning TONIGHT (July 19), and it’s expected to be mom-umental.
Continuing to follow some of the most beloved moms from Teen Mom OG and Teen Mom 2, including Amber Portwood, Ashley Jones, Briana DeJesus, Catelynn Baltierra, Cheyenne Floyd, Jade Cline, Leah Messer, and Maci Bookout McKinney, each mom is navigating a new challenge in their lives while prioritizing both mental and physical health as well as overcoming addiction.
According to MTV, the moms are tackling lingering emotional wounds, relationships and fears in order to start anew this summer.
Will they get fresh starts? Or will they be met with disappointment and disaster?
“I think you’ll see a lot of lighthearted moments with me and my kids along with some adversity that came along within the last year and a half,” Leah Messer tells Celeb Secrets host Juliet Schroder exclusively in a virtual junket. You’ll see how I navigate those and keep moving forward.
“I think there’s gonna be a lot of emotional moments with my story,” Jade Cline adds. “A lot of crying, a lot of laughing… but I feel like the way this season ends to me is good. It does leave you kind of cliff hanging, though.”
For Jade, the 26-year-old is in full-on wedding planning mode with her fiancé Sean, but her mom Christy and dad Corey decide to go to rehab. In an effort to work through past trauma, Jade starts attending Al-Anon meetings to find more emotional support and understanding.
“There were some things that happened during planning that weren’t great, but there was also different times where I felt like awesome things happened,” Jade says of her journey this season.
“I’ve always dealt with this head-to-head conflict issue with my parents — mostly my mom — but I think things now are a lot better. I’m finally going to marry the love of my life in a couple months and we’re really happy. It’s something that me and Sean really worked hard to get to.”
As for where her relationship with her mother currently stands, Cline says that a lot of “life-changing” moments have happened, and you’ll have to tune in every Wednesday to find out the rest.
“Both of my parents admitted that they needed to go to treatment. We’ve worked on a lot of our traumas, and without spoiling too much, a lot has changed. If you would have told me my life would be like it is today last year, I would have never believed it,” she shares. “I think this story has been a miracle. Anyone that struggles with addition knows that sometimes there’s people that don’t get sober and people don’t get that blessing. Luckily in my life, I was blessed with people that have really tried to take their sobriety really serious.”
For Leah, the 31-year-old has been navigating her new reality since she ended her engagement, which she tells Celeb Secrets was “the best decision [she] could have made.” Throughout the season, viewers will see how she finds time for herself again, wavering on whether she’s ready to date after the breakup.
“I’m not pressed [to date] really. I love myself, I love my life and just whatever’s meant to happen is meant to happen,” Leah shares. “If I’m meant to be the cat lady at 100, then guess what? I’m gonna be the cat lady at 100. If I’m meant to find companionship, then I’m meant to find companionship.”
Amid the fallout, she attempts to mend her complicated relationship with her dad while navigating her 30s and commemorating milestone moments her daughters are experiencing.
“There were a lot of lighthearted moments [this season], Leah teases. “The girls’ birthday party was absolutely amazing, and I really hope that people get to see it because that’s really how we are. We’re happy we’re living our life.”
“I’m continuing to go to therapy; I think it’s beneficial and it’s great,” she continues. “Just because you’re in your thirties doesn’t mean that your life is over. I think thirties is just beginning.”
