It was a nearly perfect summer night in Long Island, NY this past weekend as Train brought their co-headlining Summer Road Trip 2024 Tour with REO Speedwagon to the Northwell at Jones Beach Theater on Saturday (July 27).

Just as you would suspect with this incredible tour mate pairing, the nearly four-hour concert brought thousands of fans together for the ultimate activity of the season — a high-energy sing-a-long featuring some of music’s most iconic hits inside a one-of-a-kind seaside amphitheater. Need we say more?

The evening kicked off with support from special guest Yacht Rock Revue as they performed the best tracks from their catalogue to get the crowd excited for rock and roll legends REO Speedwagon.

As the sun set over the stage, REO Speedwagon frontman Kevin Cronin and his bandmates made a grand entrance with their song “Don’t Let Him Go,” as they kept fans on their feet for their full 12-song set by performing No. 1 hits “Keep On Loving You” and “Can’t Fight This Feeling” along with standouts like “Take It On The Run,” “Ridin’ The Storm Out” and “Time For Me To Fly” before closing out with the epic “Roll With The Changes.”

It was then time for Train to arrive onstage, and to no surprise, their hour and 20 minute performance was truly one for the books. With inflatable travel trunks and a colorful set featuring places you’d visit on a roadtrip across the nation as their backdrop, frontman Pat Monahan and the rest of the band set the tone for a fun-filled evening by kicking off their set with “50 Ways to Say Goodbye.”

Always putting their fans at the forefront of what they do, Monahan then hopped closer to the front row to grab cell phones from fans to snap iconic stage selfies during “If It’s Love.” As the night continued, the 55-year-old continued to keep the audience engaged by telling sweet anecdotes of the band’s times playing at the sentimental venue, throwing themed merch into the crowd, and letting fans sing lines from their romantic tune “Marry Me.”

In between originals like “Save Me San Francisco,” “Calling All Angels,” “Play That Song” and their latest single “Long Yellow Dress,” the band sang multiple covers from some of their favorite artists of yesterday and today. Monahan knocked it out of the park when putting his own rendition on Hozier‘s smash hit “Too Sweet” and Teddy Swims‘ “Lose Control,” which he said was a song he not only wished that he could have written, but also “hopes he does it justice” prior to singing it.

As the night came to an end, fans embraced and swayed from side to side yelling back the lyrics to the band’s most recognizable and iconic hits like “Hey Soul Sister,” “Drive By” and of course their breakout hit “Drops of Jupiter (Tell Me).”

Train’s massive 40+ date Summer Road Trip 2024 Tour kicked off July 8 in Somerset, WI at Somerset Amphitheater and has already made stops in major markets like Chicago and Toronto before making its way to New York on Saturday night. The band will continue to travel across the nation by playing shows in Houston, their hometown of San Francisco, Los Angeles and more before wrapping up on September 11 in Phoenix, AZ at Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre.

In April, the band made their debut at London’s world-famous Royal Albert Hall and recorded the milestone performance that included the new single “Long Yellow Dress” for a new album, Live at Royal Albert Hall, that dropped this past Friday (July 26).
